Why buy the TCL 98P8L
- A large picture. At 97.5 inches measured, it is much bigger than the 85-inch sets we stock, for KSh 22,000 more than the 85 inch C855.
- Smooth motion. The 144 Hz native panel and VRR support help with fast sports, action scenes and gaming.
- HDR support. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ cover the two HDR formats most streaming titles use.
- Apps without a separate box. Google TV handles YouTube, Netflix and other streaming apps on the set itself.
- Local channels. The DVB-T2 tuner picks up digital terrestrial channels, which suits Kenyan free-to-air viewing.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| 144 Hz panel with VRR | Weighs about 52 kg, so the wall or stand must take the load |
| Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support | VA-type panel, so contrast does not match OLED |
| Google TV with streaming apps built in | Needs a wide wall or stand, and a large room to suit the size |
| Onkyo 2.1 speakers with Dolby Atmos | Published specs differ on some figures, so ask us before you buy |
| DVB-T2 tuner for local channels | Built-in speakers may not match a dedicated sound system |

Verdict: The C855 costs KSh 22,000 less. If your wall and room can take a 98-inch screen, the 98P8L gives you the bigger picture. If your space suits 85 inches, the C855 is the better buy. I have not checked the C855 spec sheet in this page, so compare both listings before you pay.
