The C7L is TCL’s 2026 mid-range Mini LED TV and the entry point to its new SQD-Mini LED backlight, sitting below the C8L. It pairs a 4K 144Hz panel with Google TV, Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and speakers tuned by Bang & Olufsen. The 85″ size is meant for big lounges and TV rooms where you sit roughly 2.2 to 3.2 metres away, for families who want a cinema-sized picture for films, football and console games.

Which size is right for your room?

Verdict: At today’s prices the 85″ C8L is the better buy. For KSh 4,700 more it has about twice the dimming zones, double the claimed brightness, twice the HDMI 2.1 inputs and Wi-Fi 6. The C7L is a good TV, but at 85 inches its value only makes sense if the price gap grows. If you want C7L savings, look at the 65″ C7L, which is KSh 24,000 cheaper than the 65″ C8L.

Does the C7L need a decoder for local channels?
Not for free-to-air. Plug in an aerial and the DVB-T2 tuner finds channels such as KBC, Citizen and NTV. DStv, GOtv and other pay-TV services still need their own decoder.
Is a wall mount included?
No. You get the TV, stand, remote, power cable and manual. Use a bracket rated for at least 35kg and confirm the VESA hole pattern on the back of the set before buying one.
Does it have Netflix and YouTube?
Yes. Both come through Google TV, along with Prime Video, Spotify and other Google Play apps. Showmax can still be installed for now, but MultiChoice has announced it will close the service.
Can I play PS5 games at 120Hz?
Yes, on the two HDMI 2.1 inputs, with VRR and ALLM. Connect the console there, and use the other ports for a decoder or streaming stick.
