Why buy the Galaxy A57
- Feels like a flagship in the hand. At 6.9mm and 179g with glass on both sides and an aluminium frame, it is slimmer and lighter than many phones costing twice as much.
- IP68 for the first time on an A5x. It is rated for fresh water up to 1.5m for 30 minutes, a step up from the IP67 on earlier models.
- Updates into the 2030s. Starting on Android 16 with six major upgrades promised, it should stay supported longer than any earlier A-series model.
- Quick top-ups. 45W charging gets a flat battery to a usable level during a short break.
- A 512GB option. Useful if you shoot a lot of 4K video or download films and music for offline use.

Verdict: The A57 is a refinement rather than a reinvention. For a little more than the A56 you get a lighter body, IP68, a newer chip and one more year of updates. That small premium makes the A57 the better long-term buy, but A56 owners have little reason to upgrade.
Other phones to consider
- Samsung Galaxy A56 5G (from KSh 41,499): almost the same cameras and battery for a little less.
- Samsung Galaxy A37 5G (from KSh 36,999): a cheaper Samsung with the same long update support.
- Google Pixel 9a (from KSh 53,999): for the strongest point-and-shoot camera at this price, plus IP68 and up to seven Android upgrades.
- Nothing Phone (3a) (from KSh 38,199): adds a 2x telephoto camera and 50W charging, with a distinctive see-through design.
