Tecno announced the Phantom V Fold in February 2023. It was the brand’s first book-style foldable: a normal-width phone on the outside that opens into a near-square 7.85-inch tablet screen. It suits people who read, edit documents or watch video on the go and want one device instead of a phone and a tablet. Be aware that this is a 2023 model. Its successor, the Phantom V Fold 2, is also in stock and currently costs less than this phone’s 512GB version.

Why buy the Phantom V Fold
- A tablet-sized screen that fits in a pocket. Unfolded, the 7.85-inch panel is close to square, which works well for PDFs, spreadsheets and two apps side by side.
- A cover screen you can use normally. The 6.42-inch outer display has a regular phone shape, so calls, chats and quick searches do not need you to open the phone.
- Three useful rear cameras. The large 50MP main sensor is joined by a 50MP 2x telephoto for portraits and a 13MP ultra-wide for groups and buildings.
- Still quick. The Dimensity 9000+ was a flagship chip in its day and handles everyday apps, multitasking and most games without trouble.

Verdict: The V Fold 2 keeps the same chip and screen sizes but is 50g lighter, thinner when closed, splash resistant, and has a bigger battery, faster charging and wireless charging. It also costs KSh 6,500 less than the original V Fold with the same 512GB storage. Unless you specifically want the 256GB original to save KSh 4,500, the V Fold 2 is the better buy.
Other phones to consider

- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 (from KSh 151,999): a 2025 foldable with a 200MP camera and much longer software support.
