Why buy the HP OmniBook X Flip 16
- A real 2-in-1 at a laptop price. The touchscreen and 360-degree hinge let you sketch, take notes or watch films in tablet mode. Many laptops at KSh 100,000 cannot do this.
- Good battery for its size. The 68 Wh pack is paired with an efficient Lunar Lake chip. ITPro tested a Core Ultra 7 version of this laptop with the same battery and got over 15 hours in a video test. Expect less with the brighter screen, heavy multitasking or other chips.
- Ready for Windows AI tools. The 40 TOPS NPU meets the Copilot+ PC bar, so features like live captions and background blur can run on the chip instead of draining the CPU.
- Plenty of memory for multitasking. 16GB is enough for many browser tabs, Office files and video calls together. The 512GB SSD is fast PCIe Gen4 storage.
- Easy to connect. You get HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt 4 and two USB-A ports, so projectors, flash drives and external monitors work without a dongle.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Large 16-inch touchscreen with a 360-degree hinge | The 16GB RAM is soldered on, so you cannot upgrade it later |
| Good battery life from the 68 Wh pack | The 2K IPS panel is less vivid than the OLED version HP also sells |
| Ports for most office and school gear, including HDMI 2.1 | Reviewers criticised the touchpad and noted only one Thunderbolt port |
| Backlit keyboard and Windows AI features | Integrated graphics are weak for demanding GPU work |
| Aluminium body, about 1.88 kg | Big for a tablet, so it gets heavy in one hand |

| Feature | OmniBook X Flip 16 | OmniBook 3 16″ 16GB 512GB |
|---|---|---|

Verdict: The X Flip 16 is KSh 3,000 cheaper and adds a touchscreen and a flip hinge, so it is the better value of the two. The OmniBook 3 only makes sense if you specifically want a plain laptop and have already compared its processor with the Core Ultra 5.
