Why buy the Xiaomi 14 Ultra
- Four 50MP cameras covering 12mm to 120mm. You get a separate lens for wide landscapes, portraits at 75mm and distant subjects at 120mm, so you crop far less than on a single-telephoto phone.
- A main camera with a real aperture dial. The 1-inch sensor can shift between f/1.63 for low light and f/4.0 for sharper group shots and close-ups, something very few phones offer.
- Fast charging both ways. 90W wired and 80W wireless charging mean even a quick top-up on a desk charger makes a real difference.
- Still a quick phone. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 handles demanding games, 8K recording and heavy editing without strain two years after launch.
- Much cheaper than the newest Ultra. The 16GB/512GB model costs about KSh 43,000 less than the Xiaomi 17 Ultra at Avechi.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |

| Sharp WQHD+ LTPO screen | 9.2mm thick and almost 220g |
| 90W wired and 80W wireless charging | 5,000mAh battery is smaller than newer rivals |
| IP68 water and dust resistance | No memory card slot |
| 512GB costs almost the same as 256GB | 1TB model is expensive at KSh 131,999 |

| Display | 6.73″ WQHD+, 3,000 nits | 6.9″, 3,500 nits |
| Zoom cameras | 50MP 3.2x and 50MP 5x | One 200MP periscope with continuous zoom |
| Battery (global) | 5,000mAh | 6,000mAh silicon-carbon |
| Charging | 90W wired, 80W wireless | 90W wired, 50W wireless |
| Software at launch | Android 14 | Android 16 |
| Avechi price (16GB/512GB) | KSh 104,999 | KSh 147,999 |
Verdict: The 17 Ultra has the bigger battery, the faster chip and two more years of software ahead of it. The 14 Ultra still has the more flexible zoom setup with two dedicated telephoto lenses and faster wireless charging. If you plan to keep the phone for four years or more, pay for the 17 Ultra. If you want a top camera now and can accept a shorter support window, the 14 Ultra at 16GB/512GB is the better deal.
