Vitron is a budget TV brand widely sold in Kenya. This 40-inch model is a Full HD smart TV with a built-in digital tuner, so it can show free-to-air channels from an aerial and stream online apps over Wi-Fi. It suits a bedroom, a small sitting room, a hostel room or a shop counter, and it is a low-cost step up from a 32″ HD set. Vitron does not publish a detailed spec sheet for this model, so the details below come from our product listing.

Why buy the Vitron 40″
- No decoder needed for local channels. The DVB-T2 tuner picks up Kenyan free-to-air stations with just an aerial.
- Sharper than a 32″ HD TV. Full HD on a 40″ screen gives a noticeably cleaner picture for news, football and YouTube.
- Online and offline in one set. Wi-Fi and Ethernet for streaming, two HDMI ports for a decoder or console, and USB for playing films from a flash drive.
- Low price. At under KSh 18,000 it is one of the cheapest 40″ smart TVs we stock.
Pros and cons

|---|---|
| Built-in free-to-air tuner | Full HD, not Quad HD or 4K |
| Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Bluetooth | Whale OS has a smaller app selection than Google TV |
| Voice remote included | Speaker output not stated |
| Very affordable | No official spec sheet from Vitron |
Which size is right for your room?
For a Full HD screen, sit about 1.5 to 2.5 metres from a 40″ TV. Closer than that and you start to see the pixels. If you sit further back, the Vitron 43″ Whale TV (KSh 19,199) gives a little more screen.
Vitron 40″ Smart TV vs Vitron 40″ Android TV
| Vitron 40″ Android TV | Vitron 40″ Smart TV (this page) | |
|---|---|---|
| Avechi price | KSh 16,299 | KSh 17,699 |
| Smart platform | Android TV | Listed as Whale OS |
| Screen | 40″ LED | |
Verdict: If you want the widest choice of apps, the cheaper Android model is the safer pick. Choose this one if you like a lighter, simpler interface with a voice remote, but check that your must-have apps are available before you buy.

Is it really 2K Quad HD?
No. Its listed resolution is 1920 x 1080, which is Full HD. Quad HD would be 2560 x 1440.
Do I need a decoder for KBC, Citizen and other free channels?
No. The built-in DVB-T2 tuner receives free-to-air channels through an aerial. Pay-TV services still need their own decoder, connected by HDMI.
