This is a neckband-style open-ear headset. It sends sound through bone conduction, so your ears stay free to pick up traffic and people around you. Shokz released it globally in August 2026 as a lighter successor to the original OpenRun. It suits runners, cyclists and gym users who want a secure fit, sweat resistance and clear calls outdoors.

Why buy the OpenRun Air 2
- Light frame: At 26.4 g in the Standard size, it is more than 9% smaller than the first OpenRun. The Mini size weighs 25.9 g.
- Longer battery: Up to 10 hours per charge, about 25% more than the original. A 5-minute top-up gives roughly 2 hours, which helps before a run.
- Stays put while you move: A forward-shifted weight balance and redesigned ear hooks aim to cut down on bounce.
- Rain and sweat ready: The IP67 rating covers sweat, rain and dust. You can rinse it under a tap after a session, but do not wear it in water.
- Calls in wind: Dual microphones with AI noise reduction target wind noise, which helps on open roads and in Nairobi traffic.
- Tune the sound: Four presets and two custom EQ modes sit inside the Shokz App.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Lightweight neckband that stays secure during workouts | Open design gives no noise isolation, so loud places drown out the sound |
| Up to 10 hours of playback and a fast 5-minute top-up | Not designed for swimming or underwater use |
| IP67 rating for sweat, rain and dust | Does not fold, so it takes up space in a gym bag |
| Open-ear design lets you hear your surroundings | Bone conduction sound takes some getting used to, especially bass |
| USB-C charging and app-based EQ | Costs more than the OpenFit Air at Avechi |
