Samsung launched the Fold 7 in July 2025. It was the moment the Fold stopped feeling bulky: 8.9mm thick when closed and 215g, close to a regular large phone, with a 200MP main camera borrowed from the Ultra line. A year on, the 2026 Fold 8 models have arrived, which has pulled the Fold 7’s price down. It suits business users, readers and anyone who wants a tablet-sized screen that fits in a trouser pocket.

Why buy the Z Fold 7
- A normal phone when closed. The 6.5-inch cover screen has a regular shape, so typing a quick reply or checking M-Pesa does not mean opening the phone.
- A small tablet when open. The 8-inch inner screen fits two or three apps at once. Reading a contract while replying to email, or following a recipe while watching the video, is easy.
- Flagship cameras. The 200MP main sensor and 3x telephoto with stabilisation match what Samsung put in its S-series, so you are not trading photo quality for the fold.
- Thin and light for a foldable. At 215g it weighs about the same as many slab flagships and slips into a jacket pocket without a bulge.
- Years of support. Seven major Android upgrades from Android 16 make a large purchase easier to justify.
Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Thin, light design for a book-style foldable | No S Pen support |
| 200MP main camera and 3x zoom | 4,400mAh battery and 25W charging are modest |
| Usable full-size cover screen | IP48 only: water resistant, limited dust protection |
| Up to 7 Android upgrades | Inner screen has a plastic surface that marks more easily than glass |
| Now well below its launch price | The 512GB and 1TB versions cost a lot more |
Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra
The 2026 Fold 8 Ultra keeps the Fold 7’s tall shape and screen sizes, so it is the most direct successor. (The regular Fold 8 switched to a shorter, wider body.)
| Z Fold 7 (2025) | Z Fold 8 Ultra (2026) | |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Snapdragon 8 Elite | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 |
| Ultra-wide camera | 12MP | 50MP |
| Battery | 4,400mAh | 5,000mAh |
| Wired / wireless charging | 25W / 15W | 45W / 20W |
| Android at launch | Android 16 | Android 17 |
| Screens / main camera / IP rating | Same: 8.0″ inner, 6.5″ cover, 200MP main with 3x telephoto, IP48 | |
| Avechi price (12GB/256GB) | KSh 151,999 | KSh 194,199 |
Verdict: The Fold 8 Ultra fixes the Fold 7’s weak spots: a bigger battery, much faster charging and a better ultra-wide camera. But the core experience of screens and main camera is the same, and the Fold 7 costs about KSh 42,000 less. If battery life is your main complaint with foldables, pay for the Fold 8 Ultra. Otherwise the Fold 7 256GB is the smart buy. Note that the Fold 7 512GB costs more than a new Fold 8 256GB.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 FAQs
What is the Galaxy Z Fold 7 price in Kenya?
As of October 2026, Avechi sells the Z Fold 7 for KSh 151,999 (12GB/256GB), KSh 179,999 (12GB/512GB) and KSh 244,999 (16GB/1TB).
Does the Z Fold 7 work with the S Pen?
No. Samsung dropped S Pen support on the Fold 7 to make it thinner. If you need a stylus, look at the S26 Ultra.
Is the Fold 7 waterproof?
It is IP48, so it can survive fresh water immersion up to 1.5m for 30 minutes, but its dust protection is limited. Keep it out of sand and fine dust.
How long does the battery last?
Its 4,400mAh battery is smaller than in most non-folding flagships, and the large inner screen uses more power. Heavy users should plan on a top-up before the day ends.
Is the Z Fold 7 a 5G phone?
Yes. It supports 5G as well as 4G.
