Apple’s 2025 flagship brought the biggest redesign in years: an aluminium unibody in place of titanium, a 4x telephoto camera with a 48MP sensor, 12GB of RAM and a larger battery than any previous iPhone. Now that the iPhone 18 Pro Max is out, the 17 Pro Max costs far less while still being one of the most capable phones you can buy.

eSIM only or physical SIM: which should you choose?
The price difference comes from two hardware versions of the phone, not from colour:
- eSIM only (cheaper): no SIM card tray. You activate your line digitally with your network. Because there is no tray, Apple fits a bigger battery, 5,088mAh against 4,823mAh. Safaricom and other Kenyan networks offer eSIM, but confirm with your provider before buying.
- Physical SIM + eSIM: has a nano-SIM tray as well as eSIM. Choose this if you often swap SIM cards, buy local SIMs when travelling, or your network does not yet support eSIM on your line.
If eSIM works on your network, the eSIM version saves you money and gives you more battery life.

vs 18 Pro Max: The 18 Pro Max adds a newer chip, a main camera with adjustable aperture and an even bigger battery, but at Avechi it costs over KSh 130,000 more for the same 256GB. Unless you need the very latest, the 17 Pro Max gives you nearly the same experience for a little over half the price.
