Why buy the iPhone 16 Plus
- A large screen without Pro Max pricing. You get 6.7 inches of OLED for well under the cost of a Pro Max, which makes films, maps and long documents easier to read.
- Battery that outlasts the iPhone 16. Apple rates it at 27 hours of video playback against 22 hours for the smaller model, so a long travel day is less of a worry.
- Light for its size. At 199g it weighs much less than a Pro Max, so it is easier to hold during long calls.
- Camera Control and Action button. Both buttons from the Pro line are here, for quicker access to the camera, torch or silent mode.
- Years of software left. It already runs iOS 27, and Apple’s minimum of five years of security patches from launch takes it to at least 2029.
Pros and cons

| IP68 water resistance | USB 2 speeds for cable transfers |
| A18 chip with Apple Intelligence | 256GB costs almost as much as a newer iPhone Air |
| Camera Control and Action button | No charger in the box |
iPhone 16 Plus vs iPhone 16
| iPhone 16 | iPhone 16 Plus | |
|---|---|---|
| Screen | 6.1″, 2556 x 1179 | 6.7″, 2796 x 1290 |
| Video playback (Apple figure) | Up to 22 hours | Up to 27 hours |
| Size / weight | 147.6 x 71.6 x 7.8mm / 170g | 160.9 x 77.8 x 7.8mm / 199g |
| Chip / cameras / charging | Same: A18, 48MP main + 12MP ultra-wide, 25W MagSafe | |
| Avechi price (128GB) | KSh 99,999 | KSh 104,599 |
| Avechi price (256GB) | KSh 106,499 | KSh 114,999 |
Verdict: The Plus is only worth the extra KSh 4,600 to 8,500 if you want the larger screen and five more hours of battery. Everything else is identical. If you prefer a phone that fits one hand, the iPhone 16 is the better buy. Also weigh the iPhone 17: at KSh 123,999 for 256GB it costs KSh 9,000 more than the 16 Plus 256GB but adds a 120Hz screen, a newer chip and a better selfie camera, though on a smaller 6.3-inch display.
Other phones to consider
- Apple iPhone Air (256GB, KSh 121,999): a 6.5-inch 120Hz screen in a much thinner body, but eSIM only.
- Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max (256GB, KSh 149,999): a 6.9-inch 120Hz screen and 5x zoom if you want the biggest iPhone of this generation.
- Samsung Galaxy S26+ (12GB/256GB, KSh 105,999): a 6.7-inch 120Hz Android alternative with a 3x telephoto for about the price of the 16 Plus 128GB.
- Google Pixel 10 Pro XL (16GB/256GB, KSh 114,999): the same price as the 16 Plus 256GB, with a 5x zoom camera.
