Samsung announced the Galaxy A16 in October 2024 in two versions, 4G and 5G. The one we stock is the 4G model, which runs on a MediaTek Helio G99. It is an entry-level phone with a large AMOLED screen, a 5,000mAh battery and a promise of six Android upgrades, which is rare at this price. It suits first-time Samsung buyers, parents shopping for a student and anyone who mainly calls, chats, pays and streams.

Why buy the Galaxy A16 4G
- A sharp AMOLED screen at an entry price. Many phones near KSh 20,000 still use HD+ LCD panels. The A16 gives you a Full HD+ AMOLED with deep blacks, which makes YouTube and Showmax look noticeably better.
- Support that lasts. Samsung promises six major Android upgrades for this model, so a phone bought today should keep getting new features and security fixes for years.
- A battery for long days. The 5,000mAh cell and the efficient Helio G99 make it easy to get from morning to night on mixed use, and 25W charging refills it faster than the 10W or 15W common in this class.
- Room to grow. The microSD slot lets you add storage for photos, music and WhatsApp media without paying for a bigger model.
- Light protection from the elements. IP54 means dust and light rain are not a worry, though it should not go under water.

Galaxy A16 4G vs Galaxy A17 4G

| Processor | Same: Helio G99 | |
| Main camera | 50MP | 50MP with OIS |
| Android at launch | Android 14 | Android 15 |
| Thickness / weight | 7.9mm / 200g | 7.5mm / 190g |
| Screen / battery / charging | Same: 6.7″ Full HD+ AMOLED at 90Hz, 5,000mAh, 25W | |
| Avechi price (4GB/128GB) | KSh 19,999 | KSh 21,799 |
Verdict: The two phones share a chip, screen size and battery, so daily speed is the same. The A17 4G adds optical stabilisation for steadier low-light photos, a slimmer and lighter body, and a year more of updates because it started on a newer Android version. If KSh 1,800 more is within reach, take the A17 4G. If not, the A16 gives you almost the same experience.
