The iPhone 16e went on sale in February 2025 as Apple’s lowest-cost current iPhone, replacing the iPhone SE. It has the same A18 chip as the iPhone 16, Face ID, a 6.1-inch OLED screen and Apple’s first in-house modem, the C1. There is just one rear camera. It is the cheapest way into a recent iPhone with Apple Intelligence, and a good match for first-time iPhone buyers or anyone moving up from an older SE or iPhone 11.

Why buy the iPhone 16e
- Flagship speed for much less. The A18 chip is the same family used in the iPhone 16, so apps, games and Apple Intelligence features run smoothly.
- Strong battery for its size. Apple rates it at 26 hours of video, four hours more than the pricier iPhone 16.
- Face ID and a full OLED screen. Coming from an iPhone SE or an older LCD iPhone, the jump in screen quality is obvious.
- Light and easy to pocket. At 167g it is one of the lightest iPhones we sell.
- The cheapest route to Apple Intelligence. At KSh 66,999 it costs far less than any other iPhone that supports it.
Pros and cons

| 26-hour video battery life | No MagSafe; wireless charging limited to 7.5W |
| IP68 and Face ID | 60Hz screen with a notch |
| Lowest-priced recent iPhone at Avechi | Wi-Fi 6 rather than Wi-Fi 7 |
| Light 167g body | Replaced by the iPhone 17e in March 2026 |
iPhone 16e vs iPhone 17e
| iPhone 16e (2025) | iPhone 17e (2026) | |
|---|---|---|
| Chip | A18 | A19 |
| Modem | C1 | C1X |
| Wireless charging | Qi 7.5W | MagSafe and Qi2 up to 15W |
| Front glass | Earlier cover glass | Ceramic Shield 2 (Apple says 3x more scratch resistant) |
| Starting storage | 128GB | 256GB |
| Screen / camera / battery | Same: 6.1″ OLED, 48MP single camera, up to 26 hours video | |
| Avechi price (256GB) | KSh 79,999 | KSh 89,999 |
Verdict: The 17e is a modest update: a newer chip, MagSafe and tougher glass. At 256GB it costs KSh 10,000 more, which is fair if you want MagSafe accessories or the longest possible support. If price is the priority, the 16e 128GB at KSh 66,999 is the cheapest recent iPhone we stock, and the 256GB 16e still saves you KSh 10,000.
Other phones to consider

- Samsung Galaxy S25 (12GB/256GB, KSh 70,999): a compact Android flagship with a 3x telephoto for less than the 16e 256GB.
